How to sew leather by hand

There are several ways on how to sew leather by hand.  I have used an awl,
but it is not my favorite form of sewing by hand.  It works, but the
thread of an awl is usually very waxy and I have a hard time
keeping the loop to the down side.  My favorite in hand
sewing leather is the cross stitch.

I can actually hand sew a belt or holster all the way around with
the cross stitch in about thirty to forty minutes.  It wasn’t
that way when I first started doing it.  It was more like
about an hour and thirty or forty minutes.  But, learning how to sew
leather by hand
, like anything, takes practice and
patience.   It is the creation afterwards that is
important.  Every time I complete a cross stitch project I am
always at ‘aah’ of my results.

There is a secret I reveal in the video on how to sew
leather by hand
. If you do not follow and understand what
I go over, watch it again.  If you do not do this simple
trick your stitching will not look very good.  My first
holster and belt, shown in the video, is an example of bad
stitching by hand.  I always thought about tearing it all out
and re-doing it, but decided it wasn’t worth the effort.  If
you haven’t cross stitched before and you are on a project and you
want to come out great, then run a test with your cross stitch
with some scrap pieces of leather first.  Get the feel of it.
